Tour Scotland Photograph Old Graveyard Forfar Scotland

Tour Scotland travel photography of the old graveyard by houses on ancestry, genealogy, history visit and trip to Forfar, Angus, Scotland. The graveyard is infamous for its direct connections to the Forfar Witch Hunts of 1661 and 1662. During this dark period of Scottish history, numerous local women were accused of witchcraft. According to historical trial records, a local woman named Helen Guthrie confessed under torture that she and a coven of other "witches" met in the dead of night within the East and Old churchyard. She claimed they danced with the Devil and concocted a magical paste made from the exhumed flesh of an unbaptised child to make their broomsticks fly. Guthrie was subsequently executed, and the graveyard remains a central stop on the town's grim history trails
