Tour Scotland Video Thomas Houldsworth Memorial Necropolis Glasgow

Tour Scotland video of the interior of the Thomas Houldsworth Memorial gravestone on ancestry visit to the Necropolis a Victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. John Houldsworth 1807-1859 was the last Lord Provost of Anderson before it was incorporated into Glasgow, a Senior Baillie of Glasgow and founder of the Anderston Foundry and Machine Works. The son of a Nottingham cotton spinner who moved to Cranston Hill and worked in Kelvinbridge, Houldsworth was educated in Glasgow, Geneva and Heidelberg.

The surname Houldsworth was first found in Yorkshire, England, where they held a family seat from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Many spelling variations of the name Houldsworth have been found, including Holdsworth, Holesworth, Houlsworth, Holdworth, Houldworth and many more.
