Old Photograph High Street Lochee Dundee Scotland

Old photograph of shops, people, buildings and a Tram on the High Street in Lochee, Dundee, Scotland. The name " Lochee " comes from its location near the outflow of Loch Balgay, which has since been drained. Early settlement was characterized by weavers' cottages along the Lochee Burn and the road to Dundee. The 18th and 19th centuries saw a surge in Lochee's growth, driven by the Industrial Revolution. The influx of Irish workers during the 19th century led to Lochee being known as " Little Tipperary, " highlighting its role as a manufacturing hub and a destination for migrant workers.
