They have long horns and long wavy coats that are coloured black, brindle, red, yellow, white, silver (looks white but with a black nose) or dun, and they are raised primarily for their meat. They originated in the Highlands and Western Isles of Scotland and were first mentioned in the 6th century AD.

Old Photograph Newton Castle Scotland

Old photograph of Newton Castle near Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. A strongly built, half-castellated manor house existed here as early as 1554 but was burnt in the middle of the 17th Century. The building was later rebuilt in much of the former style. The castle is haunted by the ghost of Lady Jean.
