Billiards has a long and rich history stretching from its inception in the 15th century, to the wrapping of the body of Mary, Queen of Scots, in her billiard table cover in 1586, through its many mentions in the works of Shakespeare, including the famous line " let's to billiards " in Antony and Cleopatra, and through the many famous enthusiasts of the sport such as: Mozart, Louis XIV of France, Marie Antoinette, Immanuel Kant, Napoleon, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, George Washington, French president Jules Grévy, Charles Dickens, George Armstrong Custer, Theodore Roosevelt, Lewis Carroll, W.C. Fields, Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, and Jackie Gleason.

Old Photograph Market Day St Boswells Scotland

Old photograph of Market Day in St Boswells in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. This Scottish village is known for being on the route of St Cuthbert's Way, a long distance footpath linking Melrose Abbey to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast in north east England. The name commemorates Saint Boisil, an Abbot of Melrose. The village has an annual gypsy fair, originally a focus for the trade of horses. This fair once attracted Gypsies from most parts of Scotland, northern England and Ireland.

Old Photograph Carluke Scotland

Old photograph of cottages, houses, horse and cart and Grain Mill in Carluke located four miles South East of Wishaw in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. This Scottish town was chartered as a Royal Burgh in 1662. Carluke expanded during through the industrial age, with work involving corn milling, cotton weaving, coal mining and the manufacture of bricks, glass, confectionery and jam.
