Tour Scotland Travel Video Parish Church And Graveyard Dunnottar Stonehaven
Tour Scotland travel video of the Parish Church and graveyard on ancestry visit to Dunnottar near Stonehaven, Scotland. Dunnottar is a small hamlet just to the south of Stonehaven and west of the extensive Dunnottar Wood. The church lies in a large graveyard, which has been extended to the north. There is a long history of Christianity here, with a medieval church built in 1297 and a likely 5th century church established nearby. The only remains of the medieval church is the Marischal Aisle, a private burial aisle which was rebuilt in 1914. The interior of the church is large and open and is divided into nave, transepts and chancel. There are a number of stained glass windows in the church. The large south window depicts biblical figures and scenes and there are a number of smaller windows in the chancel, including a World War 2 memorial. There is a modern stained glass window in the east transept, which shows Dunnottar Castle in the distance.
