Tour Scotland Video Drive To Unicorn Mercat Cross Errol Perthshire
Tour Scotland video of a drive to the Mercat Cross on ancestry visit to Errol, Scotland. At the top of the Mercat Cross, also known as a Market Cross, is a Unicorn. The Unicorn was believed to be the natural enemy of the lion, a symbol that the English royals adopted. According to folklore, the lion and the unicorn hated each other, a tradition going back to the ancient Babylonians in 3,500 B.C. The Unicorn became Scotland’s national animal in the late 1300s. Errol village is located about halfway between Dundee and Perth. It is one of the principal settlements of the Carse of Gowrie. Errol is twinned with Mardié, a village on the Loire near Orléans in France.
