Tour Scotland video of late afternoon Winter Solstice on visit to the River Tay by Dundee, Scotland. Winter solstice, or hibernal solstice, is an astronomical phenomenon marking the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The River Tay is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh longest in the United Kingdom. The Tay originates in western Scotland on the slopes of Ben Lui mountain then flows easterly across the Highlands, through Loch Dochart, Loch Iubhair and Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire, then continues east through Strathtay, in the centre of Scotland, then south easterly through Perth, where it becomes tidal, to its mouth at the Firth of Tay, south of Dundee.
