Tour Scotland Autumn photograph of Landsdowne Gravestones in Kinclaven, Perthshire, Scotland. On the left is the gravestone of Lady Caroline Margaret Petty-FitzMaurice who was born on 8th of January 1939.1 She died on the 27th of September 1956 at the age of 17. She was the daughter of George John Charles Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne and Barbara Chase. On the right is the gravestone of Barbara Chase who was married to George John Charles Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne, son of Major Lord Charles George Francis Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice and Lady Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound. She died on 17 February 1965. She was the daughter of Harold Stuart Chase and Gertrude Boyer. As a result of her marriage, Barbara Chase was styled as Marchioness of Lansdowne, her full married name was Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice.

The first recording of the Landsdowne surname dates from the 14th Century. The earliest recording of the surname in Kent, England, is on May 7th 1574, when one Anne Lansdowne is entered as being christened at St. Alphege, Canterbury. Thomas Lansdowne was christened at St. Alphege on September 30th 1576.
