Tour Scotland Photograph Black Watch Memorial Edinburgh
Tour Scotland photograph of the Black Watch Memorial, Edinburgh, Scotland. Standing proud at the corner of Market Street and North Bank Street on the Mound this bronze statue of a Black Watch soldier in Highland dress is dedicated. " To the Memory of Officers, Non Commissioned Officers and Men of The Black Watch Who Fell In The South African War 1899 to 1902. " The South African War, sometimes called the Boer War, began on October 11 1899, following a Boer ultimatum that the British should cease building up their forces in the region. The Boers had refused to grant political rights to non Boer settlers, known as Uitlanders, most of whom were British, or to grant civil rights to Africans.
