Tour Scotland photograph of Auchmithie, Angus, Scotland. A former fishing village located three miles north east of Arbroath. It sits atop a red sandstone cliff, high above a shingle beach. The Arbroath Smokie originated in Auchmithie. Sir Walter Scott stayed in the Waverley Hotel in Auchmithie and described Auchmithie in his novel The Antiquary published in 1816, under the name Musslecrag.
