Old Photograph Maid of Ashton Scotland

Old photograph of Maid of Ashton near the pier at Blairmore located one mile North of Strone near Dunoon, Scotland. Blairmore village is located on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute. It is situated on the western shore of Loch Long. It was largely built during the Victorian era and has a small wooden pier which dates to 1855. MV Maid of Ashton was a passenger ferry operated by Caledonian Steam Packet Company, initially on the Holy Loch service. In May 1957, Princess Margaret took a cruise down river from Glasgow on Maid of Ashton. In January 1973, rendered redundant by the car ferry revolution, she was sold for a new career as a floating restaurant on the Thames, in London, England, under the name Hispaniola.
