Tour Scotland Video Old Photographs Portmahomack

Tour Scotland video of old photographs of Portmahomack, Easter Ross, Scotland. This small fishing village is situated in the Tarbat Peninsula in the parish of Tarbat. Ballone Castle lies about a mile from the village. Portmahomack was a centre for the white fishing boom that lasted up until the early part of the 20th century. The bay was so full of boats at time that it was said you could walk from the harbour to the rocks on the other side of the bay without getting wet. The harbour was improved by the famous engineer Thomas Telford and was important in grain export in the 19th century. Thomas Summers West, born 18 November 1927, died 9 January 2010, was a British chemist educated at Old Tarbat Public School in Portmahomack and then Tain Royal Academy. He then studied chemistry and obtained a B.Sc degree at Aberdeen University. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.
