Old photograph of Cog in a cottage on the Orkney Islands, Scotland. At an islanders wedding feast on the Orkney Islands, ale was consumed from wooden vessels known as cogs. The cog is simply a circular drinking vessel. Handmade from wood, formed from staves held securely by wooden hoops.
