Old Photograph Signet Library Scotland


Old photograph of the Signet Library in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Signet Library building, designed by Robert Reid with interiors by William Stark, was completed for the Society of Writers to Her Majesty’s Signet Society in 1822 in time for the famous visit to Edinburgh of King George IV. William Playfair and William Burn were also involved in alterations to the building.

Old Photographs Catacol Scotland

Old photograph of Catacol, Island of Arran, Scotland. Catacol's main feature is the row of cottages called the 'Twelve Apostles'. They were built to house those people cleared from the surrounding countryside, when much of the interior of the island was set aside for deer.

Old Photographs Longniddry Scotland

Old photograph of cottages in Longniddry in East Lothian, Scotland. John Knox, main figure in the Scottish Reformation and disciple of John Calvin spent significant time in Longniddry as tutor to the sons of the Douglas family who lived at the west side of the village. James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan lived in Longniddry from August 1964 with his mother and new stepfather William Carmichael before moving to London.
