The church, one of the finest remaining from the Middle Ages in Scotland, was built by King David II Bruce, born 1329, died 1371, initially for a small house of Dominican friars. Tour Scotland Photographs Old Church St Monans East Neuk of Fife July 14th

Tour Scotland photograph shot today of the old church by the sea in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. St Monans Church is situated within its kirkyard just to the west of the village on the very edge of the sea. It has a very dramatic setting, perched on a low rock, reached over a small valley with a burn. As seen from most directions it has the sea as a backdrop. A more modern cemetery stands further westwards on the upper slopes of the little hill. This contains the local war memorial. Standing at the extreme west end of this a romantic ruin can be viewed across fields, again perched on the sea edge.

Tour Scotland Video Drive Sheriffmuir Road

Tour Scotland video of a drive on the narrow road through Sheriffmuir, Scotland. The Battle of Sheriffmuir, fought on 13th November 1715, is one of the few battles in history to have ended in a draw. John Erskine, 6th Earl of Mar, standard bearer for the Jacobite cause in Scotland, mustered Highland Clan chiefs, and on 6 September declared James Francis Edward Stuart, the " Old Pretender ", as King of Scots. With an army of about 12,000 men Mar proceeded to take Perth, and commanded much of the northern Highlands. Following unsuccessful skirmishes against John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll, based at Stirling, Mar was eventually persuaded to lead his full army south, on 10 November. Spies informed Argyll of Mar's actions, and he moved his army of about 4,000 to Sheriffmuir, near Dunblane. The two armies met on the battlefield on 13 November 1715. The battle was inconclusive, with both sides claiming victory. However, in strategic terms Argyll had halted the Jacobite advance.

Tour Scotland Video Young Scots Folk Festival Stonehaven

Tour Scotland video of young Scots musicians at the Folk Festival in Stonehaven Scotland. Stonehaven is a town in Aberdeenshire. It lies on Scotland's north east coast. After the demise of the town of Kincardine, which was gradually abandoned after the destruction of its Royal castle in the Wars of Independence, the Scottish Parliament made Stonehaven the successor county town of Kincardineshire. Stonehaven had grown around an Iron Age fishing village, and expanded inland from the seaside. As late as the 16th century, old maps indicate the town was called Stonehyve, Stonehive, Pont also adding the alternative Duniness. It is known informally to locals as Stoney.

Tour Scotland Video Scottish Country Dancers Highland Games Stirling

Tour Scotland video of Scottish Country Dancers at the Highland Games in Stirling, Scotland. Scottish country dancing is a social form of dance with three or more couples of dancers, and should not be confused with Scottish highland dance, a solo form of dance. There is a certain amount of cross-over, in that there are Scottish country dances that include highland elements as well as highland style performance dances which use formations otherwise seen in country dances, but these are relatively few when the two dance forms are considered each as a whole.
