Tour Scotland Winter video of a drive to Scone Palace, by Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The long driveway to Scone Palace, which is a historic house at Scone, Perthshire, Scotland. It was constructed, by recasting a 16th century palace, in 1808 for the Earls of Mansfield by William Atkinson. Built of red sandstone with a castellated roof, it is a classic example of the late Georgian Gothic style. In the Middle Ages the land was the site of a major Augustinian abbey, Scone Abbey, nothing now remains above ground level, the crowning-place of the Kings of the Scots, on the Stone of Destiny, down to Alexander III.

Tour Scotland Video Interior Parish Church Dundee

Tour Scotland video of the interior of St. Mary's Parish Church, Dundee, Scotland. Dundee played an important role in the Reformation, and John Knox asserts in his History of the Reformation that " the first face of a public church Reformed " was that of St Mary's in Dundee, by 1556. The church dates back to 1190, when it was founded by David, Earl of Huntingdon, brother of William the Lion, King of Scots. The original buildings have not survived. In 1303 the church was burnt by an invading English army. Following a further invasion in 1547 the church was burnt down again. In the late Middle Ages, Dundee's was the largest parish church in Scotland.

A Scottish Graveyard Miscellany, Hamish Brown explores in words and extraordinary pictures the folk art of Scottish graveyards from the eighteenth century (when gravestones began to be widely used) to the present day. Each old kirkyard is a riotous celebration of folk art: there are skulls and skeletons, ships and lighthouses, angels galore, carved portraits of our forebears and even a gravestone decorated with a picture of Bart Simpson and his skateboard! More than mere memorials, the graves are a collection of pages in stone taken from the history of Scottish everyday life. Scotland's kirkyards are not gloomy places to be shunned, but places to find vivid stories from the lives of people, without distinction of class or creed. There is much humour in this book, and the photographs throughout taken by the author illustrate better than words why we should look after the unique treasuries in our midst. The Scottish Graveyard Miscellany: The Folk Art of Scotland's Graves.

Tour Scotland Video Frozen Loch Leven

Tour Scotland video of frozen Loch Leven, Perthshire, Scotland. It is quite rare to see this Scottish loch completely frozen over as it was this afternoon. Loch Leven Castle, one of the best and least changed examples of a fourteenth century keep remaining in Scotland, stands on an island in this loch. I would have liked to have walked to the castle, but with freezing fog rolling in, it would not have been a good idea today.
