Tour Scotland Video Winter Drive Meikleour Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of part of a Winter drive from Blairgowrie to Meikleour Beech Hedge in Perthshire, Scotland. A very cloudy day, but somehow beautiful as well. The video ends at the Meikleour Beech Hedges, the tallest and longest hedge in the world. The hedge was planted in the autumn of 1745 by Jean Mercer and her husband, Robert Murray Nairne on the Marquess of Lansdowne's Meikleour estate. It is said the hedge grows towards the heavens because the men who planted it were killed at the Battle of Culloden. The hedge is noted in the Guinness World Records as the tallest and longest hedge on earth, reaching 100 feet in height and 1/3 mile in length. The hedge is trimmed once every ten years, and can be viewed by visitors all year round.

Tour Scotland Video Old Scone Road Perthshire December 3rd

Tour Scotland video of the road up the hill from Old Scone to New Scone, Perthshire, Scotland. Shot this video at 1pm, Friday, December 3rd. The medieval village of Scone, which grew up around the monastery and royal residence, was abandoned in the early 19th century when the residents were removed and a new palace was built on the site by the Earl of Mansfield. Thus, there are two Scones, the modern village of Scone, and Scone Palace on the site of the medieval village of Old Scone

The clearances in Breadalbane, did not occur until the 1830’s, under the command of the Second Marquis of Breadalbane. In 1835, the factor, James Wyllie, had cleared the entire population of Glenquaich, with many taking flight by sea and populating lands in the new world, including the Huron settlement in Western Ontario and North Easthope, County of Perth, Ontario, Canada. There, they settled with other families from Amulree, Auchnafauld, Aberfeldy and Kenmore. All areas covered by the events of the 1830 clearances.
